Evelyn’s got a new pocket

Here’s a close-up of a one-slot piece pocket inside the new Evelyn I’m working on. She’s also getting a standard two-compartment patch pocket and on the exterior I’m adding a pleated patch pocket, that’d be this afternoon after I run to the post office, etc.

Ok, I’m back and I finished the pocket…seen below…the pleated pocket on the exterior of this new Evelyn tote…with a small pleat in the middle allows for a bit of a “poof” to the pocket…I got the idea from my husband’s cargo pants…the pleat makes the pocket be able to carry odd shaped objects, like keys, kid toys or dog balls. Since this is the exterior of the bag I wanted a pocket on the front – outward facing side, but also didn’t want to ruin the main design on the fabric, so I tried to match the pocket fabric up to the front panel fabric - this of course uses a great deal of fabric – now one whole design panel of the remaining fabric is unusable for another bag like this, and with limited fabric such as this vintage barkcloth, I almost didn’t make this pocket at all for this very reason…but, I think the pocket makes the bag all the more special and usable, and now that there’s even less fabric left to make additional bags, well…so be it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I do so admire people that can SEW. I am lucky to sew a button on straight. My dress I had to make back in the days of Home Ec nearly failed me. Sigh. You are very talented!

    you’re very kind…thank you! :)

a dress?! you poor thing! In Home Ec, I made a reversible VEST…something I thought would be easy – and it was. And then our teacher said, we had to wear our creation to school…egads! What was I thinking? I made a kelly green vest out of some already reversible fabric – quilted like – it was not fashionable, even for the 70s in middle school…I wore it the one time.

ooooh I love that pocket! I have always been so intimidated by that kind. Love the colors too. The fabric on the outside is AMAZING – what a pretty bag!

Thanks Kerry! :) the one piece slot pocket? nah, piece of cake, really. This was the third one I did, first was a test on scraps, the second I did in the Frances bag and this was the third and turned out much better than the first two, I think I got it down. :)
