This afternoon I finished a new Frances in the patchworkthat I started last week. I’m pleased, I like how it turned out, the mixing of old and new worked out well. The button is a vintage clear glass gem, I am now low(ish) on my vintage button stash, I can’t believe I missed the Arizona State Button Society Annual Meeting and Show (the AZ club doesn’t have a web site -!- but the National Button Society does) a couple weeks ago…partly due to house project stuff or sewing or, something, I’m sure, and the other thing that kind of held me back from going is the theme was “Circus of Buttons” …I hate circuses, hate clowns, I dunno, I just couldn’t get past that, I’m sure it was to say a mix or potpourri or festival or jubilee … anyway, I missed it. There’s an antique store in Glendale where I’ve found my most recent “jackpot”, I’ll have to get out there, see if the button collector/dealer has replenished her cache.

Next up an Evelyn in the vintage patchwork quilt top pieces, then another Frances in fun IKEA fabric – these are all for the GoodyBag Party at the end of March. All total then, I’ll have 9 new bags for sale at the party, and I’m told there will be 10 people plus the host and myself in attendance. We’ll see how this works out, last Party I had 22 bags and we had about 15 people there and not everything sold, but I ended up taking 4 orders for one style alone. I thought this time I’d go with fewer new bags on hand – I’d rather sell everything I bring and then take a few orders, not vice versa. The rest of the pics are up on flickr >>.

What a beautiful bag – I love the combination of fabrics and colors. Did you use an extra heavy interfacing since the fabric is lighter weight? Just curious.
Nice Work!
Thanks Kerry! First I backed both patchwork/quilt top sections with muslin, then the lining gets the interfacing and I used a medium weight, not extra heavy, so the whole thing is four layers from exterior + muslin + interfacing + lining…it’s still a soft bag but can stand up on it’s own like in the photo – I don’t like to make my bags too stiff.
