My sis Jennifer and I went to the antique malls on Scottsdale Road on Saturday, all I wanted to find was fabric and maybe a few vintage buttons. I was in a near panic at the second mall when I couldn’t find the vintage fabric booth…no longer there? what, no longer there? I could’ve died. I started circling the entire shop and then finally, there it was. They moved her things. grrr! Don’t antique malls know that when you find a favorite booth that you memorize it’s location for next time, how hard would it have been to put up a little note saying that she had been moved to a different location…aiy! Anyway…I went through everything she had and was thrilled to find another red dogwood tablecloth, this one is for a large rectangular table which means I can make more than 2 bags, PLUS it the entire set came with six matching napkins – 2 red, 2 brown and 2 green, the three colors that this tablecloth style comes in. I got it for $24 – which if you figure out the yardage makes this rather spendy fabric, but with the added napkins, I thought this was a fair deal. I’ll be able to make six Sadie GoodyBags, the make-up bag size, and I think three Frances tote purses out of the tablecloth. I’m so excited, I know lots of people had raved about the red dogwood Frances that I made in January.

At the same booth I found this gorgeous Butterick dress pattern…so lovely! And the vintage hanky too – I’ll use the hanky to make a pillow and the dress pattern, oh wouldn’t that make a fantastic holiday party dress? Yes, yes it would…the bottom skirt portion could be in gunmetal gray flocked with black and the top in black velvet…be still my heart! But, first, definitely need to make a muslin, I think the top portion will need to be altered for a proper fit.

I could feel your panic through my laptop! Well done in the end though. Lucky you. Love the pattern and the idea of flocking on gunmetal grey…do you know we seem to think alike?
What superb finds! The tablecloth and napkins were a good deal – especially if the condition is as good as it looks from here.
The hankie – very unusual. Maybe a man’s hankie? I do love a nice hankie…
I’m in love with the dress pattern and the idea of making it…I have this perfect vision of it in my head, now to find the fabric…I’ve seen what I’m looking for at an upholstery fabric shop for making drapes, I think it would work perfectly for the skirt portion and then doing the top in black velvet!
thank you!
Kerry I think it is a man’s hankie…but no man ever touched this one!
Great find, great red and design !
oh living vicariously through you– hope you don’t mind . .
