Several weeks back now I was approached by a woman at my most favorite coffee shop (ok, my ONLY favorite coffee shop) Lux about teaching a group of women in Juarez, Mexico how to sew. Since then I’ve met with the group organizer a couple times now. The group is through Women Beyond Borders - in summary, the project I’d be involved in is a women’s cooperative in Juarez where the women have gathered together to create saleable products, the WBB will help them attain Fair Trade raw materials to make the goods and is helping them with infrastructure items as well – getting a roof on their community building. Where I come in is to teach them sewing, right now I’m tentatively looking at a June trip. There’s so much potential, they just need people like you and me willing to help them get their cooperative off the ground, I’m excited and pleased to be a part of this, and all because I sew…who said sewing is a silly pastime, eh? (ok, no one has ever said that to me!). More as this continues…
All because I sew

Wow! You have so much going on! This is really awesome! You are so generous!
It seems like such a small thing to give – my time and sharing of skills to help people go so far – I dunno, I’m not a saint, I’m not pretending to be, I’m doing this because it fits for me, it feels right, I’m getting so much out of it and too, I’m going to Paris for two weeks, I feel really lucky for that opportunity, I just want to give another woman a little bit of luck … ya know? in a large karmic kind of way this is how I want to give back.
